Coleridge Way 3 and 4 weekend 6th/7th October 2018
An oustanding weekend away walking the above two sections of the Coleridge Way commenced on the Saturday amidst atmospheric swirling rain and mist high up in the Brendon Hills at Raleighs Cross. As we progressed the weather quietly changed to a bright and sunny afternoon as predicted. This led us to observe what can only be described as some of the most beautiful and awesome countryside views. We passed through many small hamlets on our way such as Roadwater.
At the end of the day our coach transported us to the Premier Inn at Minehead where a superb 2 course evening meal and room had been organised. This was an excellent choice of venue complete with modern facilities in quiet location.
The Sunday morning broke to a bright crisp start so after breakfast a number of the group opted to walk into Minehead to embrace the sea air or to visit the steam railway sidings. En route to the start point the sun broke through to give us superb walking conditions for the day ahead. Two groups set off to walk Section 4 of the Coleridge Way with the trail offering some stunning views across the hills towards the Bristol Channel and onwards towards Wales. On completing the walks we arrived at The Rest and be Thankful Inn at Wheddon Cross where an appetising carvery was enjoyed before we finally set sights on returning to Torbay.
Our grateful and sincere thanks are extended to our group Secretary Tessa who had spent many hours not only organising and recceing the walks but also arranged and negotiated a fantastic package for everyone at our hotel together with the evening dinner at Wheddon Cross. A weekend trip magnifisently completed.
Dorothy, Eric, Sally and Arthur together with Tessa led the walks which ran to schedule, successfully reaching their planned destinations. Well done to all concerned while not forgetting Chris Wood who assisted with some of the intricacies of the walks.
We look forward to finalising the walk next year with plans to be announced at a later date.
